Friday Five...
Please count down five living people you admire and tell us a little something about why they make your list. These could be famous people or people you know personally.
You'll be able to tell I did #1 first and backed up to #5.
5... Deepak Chopra is another one who sews seeds of acceptance of all faiths knowing we are all created by the One God we also believe in... Same goal - to find God, but many paths to get there.
4... Bishop John Spong, who has opened doors that allow for fresh air in the teachings and living the Christ-like life.
3... Singer and composer, Roger Whittaker, and his music. His voice resonates a depth of character and love for people everywhere.
2... Someone, who became a friend, who also followed the 'rule' of the universe....'when the student is ready, the teacher appears'. He allowed a new beginning to fully flourish after a long growth time. He came near the end to help cut the loose ends and tidy the pieces of myself that were healing.
1...Jean Vanier is the top. He has done so much to wake us up to accepting folks who are seen as social outcasts. His insights are more fully human than so many.
I was a program staff member at a Church Education Centre out west and heard him speak in person. He never once raised his voice except to laugh....you could hear a pin drop in that huge place. Our eyes met as he walked out of the meeting and I felt he saw me in the depth of my soul. Almost piercing, yet gently accepting me. All that in a moment. Hard to forget that!
