I find many times I need to "go under" the waters that offered life at the beginning. All through our lives we have need of this intentional action. It does not take anything away from the initial act, but adds depth of newness and re-birthing, and our own choice again is spoken out...I have God to heal my broken places and I offer myself again to the God of love for "going under" allows new growth, healing, and new life at every age, every stage of life.
Is this not what Lent, Good Friday and Easter are all about? Renewal, Healing, Re-Birth ...all for transformation into wholeness. It's a process calling us into being more fully alive, more conscious, and so, more fully human as we journey.
Not that it's an easy journey, but not moving towards the light, and not looking back longing for the old ways is a real challenge. We walk the road together with the Whole People of God ... all of us ....
Let's remember ....... An Easter awaits at the end of each "going under".
Going Under
The water rises above my head, as I go down,
I wonder if they watch me going, now gone.
The bubbles of my breath fade from above,
The water has closed itself about me, in love.
Was this what was felt by Jesus as he went under?
Gone are Earth’s and this life’s ties ~ torn asunder.
Cleansed of all things that make this world hard,
So he could offer his living as God’s trump card?
Drowning to one’s self, to the desires for thunder,
Breath is different upon rising up from being under,
The washing clean of stuff of angst, of hurt, of pain,
Now the healed rising of a fresh dawn, new life again.
Thus once more we rise with the Risen, alive to tell,
On the way a friend gave life’s water from the well.
God looks on wondering when we’ll all come inside,
Open arms are waiting to embrace, come let us abide.
Each day renewed and brought before love’s great heart,
Openly receive, in receiving, we go out as re-created art.
We need not fear, for all is changed in the going under,
Transformed to a new way of being, alive in love’s wonder.
